Take me out to the ball field.........

Kiwanis baseball is Freeville/Dryden's version of little league baseball.  For two straight months we dedicate our time bringing Alex to the Freeville Park for baseball every Tuesday and Thursday.   Watching 6 & 7 years olds play baseball is sort of like watching paint dry.    As parents you only get excited when your wee one is up to bat and if they get close to a ball in the outfield.

This is Alex's second year playing baseball, he has been improving.  Last year he was given the MIP award, most improved player.   This year he spends more time hitting from the pitcher vs. the tee.   His field play is more entertaining to watch.  He is not necessarily good, but he is just entertaining to watch.   He usually wears his hat to the side (my little rebel), and spends the time being self entertained by trying to touch the runners without them or anyone else noticing.   What is different about this year though.  he will go after a ball that comes towards him., last year he would step to the side, look the other way, and wait for the overachiever player to take charge. 

The overachiever players all look alike.  They are wearing the full baseball uniform, right down the the stir up pants, running from right field to left center just to get the ball,  sliding at age 6, and can throw a baseball from 1st to 3rd with no problems.   I guess they are the future athletes.   Once baseball becomes competitive  my son will decide to move on  or don the stir up pants.   Time will only tell!
